Cloudlab is a tool for music producers designed to assist with remote collaboration inside the studio or on-the-go.
Cloudlab will exist as a stand-alone mobile application and as a feature built into Ableton. The built- in version will allow for users to work remotely in real time on the same project from anywhere with a WiFi connection. This real time aspect is an anticipated upgrade from the current Ableton Link feature, which is limited to operating over the same WiFi or LAN network. The capabilities of remote real time collaboration currently exist, with Avid Cloud for Pro Tools as a prime example. The introduction of CloudLab will enable Ableton users the same luxuries including: real time audio and MIDI sharring, track editing, mixing and arranging.
The mobile form will allow users to quickly access project files over the application’s cloud service, eliminating the need for projects to be exported and shared for review and feedback. Users will be able to preview projects in full or solo individual channels and leave notes with timestamps. This means users can listen to the work in progress on the commute to work, make notes that other collaborating artists can see as well, and have access to these notes directly inside of Ableton when they return to the studio to work. It’s more than a collaboration tool, it’s a producer’s companion.
CloudLab will have an initial focus as being a tool adjacent to Ableton, with ambitions to expand into other DAW’s in the future.
